WWI Museum
Today was a lighter travel day with only about four hours of driving from St. Louis to Kansas City. We started out in rain and St. Louis was fogged in around the river, but it cleared as we drove across Missouri. Our first stop in Kansas City was the World War One Museum, which dates back to 1926 but has recently been upgraded to a very modern look and feel. We both enjoyed the museum, but the story of WWI is a horrible one. The war started for basically nationalistic reasons and quickly grew out of hand because of mutual defense pacts between the participating countries, finally ending with the slaughter of millions of people to no good end.

Kansas City Skyline
The tower at the museum offers an excellent view of the Kansas City area. In the photo, you can see the city skyline in the distance and Union Station in the foreground. Fortunately it has an elevator.

Country Club Plaza
We did a little driving tour of Kansas City. We have been here before, but this time we made sure we went through the Country Club Plaza area, which is essentially an open air, upscale shopping and dining district. It has 15 blocks of stores designed in the style of Seville, Spain, so it does have a unique look of tile roofs and mosaics. In the photo, you can see a tower designed to replicate one at the cathedral in Seville.
Being in Kansas City, you have to try the barbecue, so we ate at Jack Stack, which is an “upscale” BBQ restaurant and the food was very, very good, especially the Burnt End Stew.
